MAIN STORY
The series premiered in 1961.

Marvel Comics produced no comics with superheroes in the early 1960s, but following DC Comics' great success in that field, the publisher Marvin Goodman suggested that Lee invented a brand-new set of superheroes. The result was Fantastic Four who worked as a unit set on fighting crime. Periodically the characters have been supplied by other superheroes, but the original foursome is still intact today.
