The series premiered in 1994. Stopped in 1996 after 23 issues, but a second series titled The Book of Fate was published from 1997 to 1998 (12 issues).

The starring character is Jared Stevens, who started out as a grave robber. In Egypt he digs up a strange amulet that later explodes in his face and imbues him with diverse magical powers as well as a disfiguring red Ankh tattoo covering his right eye. Stevens now realizes that he has a mission of ridding the world of evil elements, so he disguises himself and goes to work.
