The series premiered in 1890. Stopped in 1953 after 2997 issues.

The issues contain several action and humour stories featuring long forgotten series such as Alfie the Air Tramp, Barnacle Bill, Curly Crusoe, Dickie Duffer, Paul Power, and Sally Sunshine.

The term Chip is printers' slang for a filler in the format of a short text or an illustration.
