MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1968*. Stopped in 1971 after 18 issues, but has been revived several times since then.

The series stars colonel Nicholas 'Nick' Joseph Fury, who began his army career during World War 2. He later became a CIA agent and is now attached to the fictional espionage network called S.H.I.E.L.D. (Supreme Headquarters, International Espionage, Law-Enforcement Division). The tough one-eyed and cigar smoking veteran roams wherever he is needed - even in space - but although he has a whole organisation to support him, he mostly acts as a one-man army.

The full title of the series is Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (the dots were dropped during the series' run, though).

* The character first appeared in Sgt. Fury that ran from 1963 to 1974 (120 issues).
