MAIN STORY
The series premiered in 1932. Stopped in 1963 following Russell's death.

The series features a seemingly middle-aged man in ragged and baggy clothes and with untidy hair and beard. He is a homeless vagabond who just takes what life has in store for him; sometimes he is helpful, sometimes he steals, and sometimes he even has the odd job for a short period of time.
Russell managed to come up with the main plot idea when the depression was escalating in the USA, and the readers could see real tramps every day. This way Pete became a bit like a spokesperson for the unfortunate Americans that were down on their luck.
