The series started as a loving parody on a poor and starving author, but soon the male main character (a poet who remains nameless) had wife, child and dog, and the series went on to parody and satirize typical family life in Denmark.

The title of the series might be translated into The Poet and Little Mother, which is not accurate, because the Danish term Lillemor is more a special and affectionate term for a loving and caring wife.
