MAIN STORY
The series premiered in 1949*. Stopped in 1982 after 287 issues.

The starring, nameless character is a poor, melancholic sod (a sad sack), who is enrolled in the American army, where he witnesses and partakes in all the often puzzling actions that are going on. Mostly, he experiences absurdities and humiliations, but he always manages to work his way through them. 

The series came in 14 Harvey comics issues, some of which were published in more than 40 issues:
Sad Sack's Funny Friends 1955-1969 (75 issues), Sad Sack and the Sarge 1957-1982 (155 issues), Sad Sack Laugh Special 1958-1977 (93 issues), Sad Sack's Army Life Parade 1963-1975 (57 issues), Sad Sad Sack World 1964-1973 (46 issues).
