:  The corporation chiefly published pulp fiction magazines and novels, but from 1940 to 1949 it took up publishing comic books as well. It never used a logo on these front covers.

 

 

MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1940*. Stopped in 1949 after 101 issues, but the title character has appeared in many other series since then.

The starring character's real name is Kent Allard, but he is also known under aliasses such as Lamont Cranston and Henry Arnaud. His crime-fighting missions bring him in contact with the underworld via a net of agents, and he uses his stunning skills to stop the villains. Some of Allard's most valuable skills are hypnosis, invisibility, marksmanship, martial arts, stealth, and telekinesis.

* The character is based on a radio show titled The Shadow that aired from 1937 to 1954 (665 episodes), but he first appeared in pulp magazines from 1931.
