MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1946 with Franquin as the creator. In reality, the series was started by Robert Velter (Rob-Vel) in 1938 and several artists worked on it later on. Still, Franquin is regarded as the creator, because he developed longer stories and new characters.

The title characters are young and boyish reporters who are constantly whirled into fantastic and dangerous adventures. Accompanying them on their journeys are a yellow, spotted monkey-like fantasy figure, Marsupilami, and a rather timid pet squirrel, Spip, who delivers sarcastic remarks to all the goings-on.
The home base for the four characters is the village of Champignac-en-Cambrousse, where they are often helped by the inventive professor and count Pacôme Hégésippe Adélard Ladislas de Champignac.

The character of Marsupilami became such a great success that he starred in his own series from 1987.
