Personal dates: Founded in 1919 by Wilford Hamilton Fawcett (1885-1940). After his death one of his sons, Roscoe, took over keeping the company a family business. Stopped in 1953.

: The corporation never used a logo on their comic book front covers. The only identification (if any!) was the rather inconspicuous line A Fawcett Publication.

 

 

MAIN STORY
The series premiered in 1941. Stopped in 1943 after 11 issues.

The starring character is Alan Armstrong, who is a master detective armed with a number of gadgets, which he uses in his encounters with foreign spies trying to infiltrate the USA during World War 2. Armstrong disguises himself as a superhero appropriately named Spy Smasher. When the war ended the series continued under the title Crime Smasher.

A new, independent series also titled Spy Smasher emerged in 2007 and features a female government agent by the name of Katarina Armstrong.
