Statsministeren (The Prime Minister in English) is the ongoing story of a nameless character who is the political leader in Denmark. The series satirizes the power and the occasional ineptitude of a modern democracy, and it is often commenting on real, contemporary events.
The Prime Minister is portrayed as both a leader and a follower, and he has unending encounters with people from all walks of life such as his cleaning lady, his generals, and the Danish Queen. He meets single persons, delegations, and crowds, and some of the time he has little idea what is going on, but he always manages to maintain a trustworthy appearance - and a stiff upper lip.

The series is known in most parts of the world under varying titles. For example, in the USA it is called The Kingdom.
