MAIN STORY
The series premiered in 1940.

The character of Denny Colt ('The Spirit') is a masked vigilante operating chiefly in Central City, where he on his own hand fights crime with the blessing of the city's police commissioner Dolan.
Colt got his nickname in the first story where he supposedly got killed by gangsters. He adds to the mystique by having his home base under his own tombstone in Wildwood Cemetery!
The series is filled with eccentric characters, fumbling criminals, and beautiful ladies. The stories contain a great variety of graphic innovations and most of the plots are quite inventive.
