MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1994. Stopped in 1996 after 25 issues.

The title character, who is also known as John Doe and John Smith, is a superpowered vigilante. His trademark (and name) is the slashing of a villain's forehead once; if they meet again he makes another slash resulting in an X. There is never a third slash.
