MAIN STORY

The series premiered in 1963.

The X-Men (X stands for Xtra abilities) is a group of young students (male and female), who, via their Professor Xavier, is now living as mutants in order to use many kinds of superpowers on menaces and villains. The first members of the team were Marvel Girl, Cyclops, The Beast, The Angel, and Iceman, but over the years there have been ongoing replacements.
The team also battles evil mutants, some of which have been Magneto, Quicksilver, The Scarlet Witch, Apocalypse, and Mister Sinister.

Over the decades the series' title has changed several times. Examples are Astonishing X-Men, Essential X-Men, and The Uncanny X-Men. Also, there has been several spinoff series such as X-Factor, X-Force, X-Statix, and X-Treme X-Men. Initially, Lee suggested titling it The Mutants, but it was turned down by the publisher.
